HOLYOKE – A relatives of three was displaced just after a fire began in the basement of a significant multi-family apartment constructing in the Flats section of the metropolis Monday.
Firefighters responded to 13 North East St. right after alarms induced by hefty smoke have been sounded, Hearth Lt. Kevin Cavagnac said.
“Responding units observed heavy smoke in the basement,” he explained. “The use of thermal imaging cameras allowed them to see through the smoke and they situated a hearth burning in a ventilation/light shaft.”
Firefighters were ready to extinguish the flames immediately, but the fire experienced extended into the walls and window frames of two initial-ground flats. One of the flats was also drastically weakened by water, Cavagnac claimed.
No one was wounded in the hearth.
